About Us

Pure and simple, The Playful Garden was born out of a desire to have fun sharing the joy of gardening with others.  My sisters, Susie and Ellie, were drawn to the same idea, though none of us had any inkling of how our initial dream would come to fruition.  Regardless, we set forth putting our thoughts together.  We all loved gardening and garden art, so that seemed a good place to start.  In the process, Susie created an endearing little clay half mole we named "Moe Moley" and the three of us spent delightful hours on the phone sharing mole poems, limericks, and marketing ideas.  We dressed Moe up as famous moles, such as "Molzart," shared pictures via email, and literally screamed with laughter.  "Yes!" we all thought.  "THAT'S what The Playful Garden is all about--we want other people to laugh and have fun with our products just as we are right now!"

Our mole play was followed by the idea of a retail store where TPG products could be test marketed.  Since my sisters live in Washington, it became apparent that if a store was to be opened, it would be up to me--and that was a pretty scary thought!  After several years of planning (and procrastinating), the Goethe quotation taped to the front of my computer jumped out at me: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it."  I took a deep breath... "If I'm going to open a store, it's either now or never!"  In April, 2008, the dream became a reality with the support and encouragement of my husband, Mike, and a whole lot of help from family and friends.  As the TPG story unfolds, I continue to learn and grow each day in an environment and business that seems to have a life of its own.  The Playful Garden is a playground for the imagination--and my job is to play in it.  Lucky me!
